WELCOME TO GRACE'S PRIVATE PIANO LESSONS

Home: Welcome

ALL ABOUT ME

I have played the piano since 2006, and plan to continue studying it for many years to come. As early as age 7, I performed in front of 700+ people regularly. Overtime, I was participated in many competitions and performances, especially the II Division Dallas Solo Competition in which I received 4th place. In 2015, I joined Liberty Symphony Orchestra to perform internationally at a conference in Chicago. During this time, I officially became a part of my school's orchestra as a pianist; I perform regularly and have been requested to accompany soloists that play for Solo and Ensemble, or All-State, as well as musicals in school and private events and award banquets at the University of Texas at Dallas. I have been under the instruction of Eva Li, Oksana Illiasevich, Khanh Vu, a doctorate of piano performance & student of Vladimir Viardo (winner of the 4th Van Cliburn international competition), Yuki Kumamoto, and Professor Mary Medrick at UTD. I also studied under Do Vy Ha at The Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Vietnamese community to learn about piano improvisation, transposition, and technique where I accompanied 3 choirs. I received my music minor at the University of Texas at Dallas and now, I am currently a master's student studying Neuroscience & Cognition. Being a private piano instructor helps me grow as a musician as well as a person. Being able to encourage young children, and all kids alike to discover their abilities and talents in music is a passion of mine. Piano performance is something I love, and I'd want my students to be able to perform, love, and understand music. Each student has a different learning style, and it is my duty to adapt to their needs, and learning speed. I encourage students to stick with piano as long as possible. "Our kids absolutely love [lessons] with Grace and always look forward to their next sessions with her. We've never known our kids to be enthusiastic about anything let alone music but that has changed since they've been with her. She is patient and understanding of their needs and works with them on a learning plan that individually suits them."

"Grace teaches both my kids. She is patient and encouraging. She focuses on technique, musicality, and theory which is so important. PIANO BOOKS

Lesson Books & Theory Books

The following books are what the students will need (depending on their level, each student will have different books to buy at the moment).  The theory books will enable the student to have a deeper understanding of the musical language. The lesson books will provide pieces that will teach them technique, and style. For the more Early Intermediate to Early Advanced students, the Quiet Classics Book will be the "repetoire" the students will learn.

PIANO THEORY BOOKS

"Just the Facts Theory Books- by A. N. N. Lawry Gray"

All 12 books guide the student to learn the basic alphabet of the music language, to experience ear training to strengthen their musical hearing, and to learn how to compose and transpose classical music, and church music. Students will learn the basics and the base of where music stems from, and will have a deeper understanding of the language itself.

PIANO LESSON BOOKS FOR BEGINNERS (FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE IN THEIR FIRST TO SIXTH YEAR OF PIANO EDUCATION)

"Faber Piano Lesson Books"

These books written by Nancy and Randall Faber provide an easy and clear platform of music and worksheets which are provided to check the student's complete understanding of the new material that they were introduced. It is also fun, refreshing and has multitudes of styles and songs to learn to add enjoyment to lessons.

QUIET CLASSICS BOOK FOR LATE INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED

"Quiet Classics- Keith Snell"

"Beautiful music appropriate for church service, weddings, elegant parties, and restaurants..."
This book contains beautiful classics ranging from numerous prodigious composers such as Debussy, Chopin, Bach, or Beethoven to just name a few, and may be played for performances at any occasion.
*only for late intermediate & advanced students*

MORE PRACTICE AND TECHNIQUE

"Hanon: The Virtuoso Pianist"

"(Piano Method). Since the first release of this classic Schirmer edition over 100 years ago, almost anyone who has taken piano lessons for more than two years has played from The Virtuoso Pianist . Millions of copies have been sold of these progressive exercises which guide a player's technique, building finger independence and strength. This was the first American edition released of this music, and remains a classic at a remarkably affordable price."
